Kai ora,
My additional background experience for my work history for you and your colleagues.
Before taking up counselling I managed the Disability and Equity service at the University of Canterbury. I supported students with learning difficulties by providing educational support and guidance, including academic supports on behalf of the University.
I was the Disability Advisor for Christchurch City Council, I worked with the disability sector to help resource, grow and develop community initiatives while fostering people’s independence. I managed a community charitable trust, supporting people with high levels of physical disability to live with support in the Christchurch community. I was actively involved in co-constructing people’s community care plans and personal lifestyle plans.
Previously I worked as a Team Leader at Richmond Fellowship RIDSAS Team, Christchurch. During this time Managed four residential houses (operating 24/7 in a secure community setting) for mental health consumers placed in Richmond Fellowship sectioned by the Courts. I had clinical responsibility for residents and each house in partnership with Clinical Psychologists and Social Workers.
I have been a Special Education Advisor and classroom teacher at the Ministry of Education, Group Special Education, Christchurch. I implemented behaviour plans and interventions with Christchurch Primary and High Schools. In addition, I also worked with rehabilitating people who had been incarcerated back into the community through work in the horticultural industry. In my early years and provided specialist recreational opportunities, residential camps and programs for people with disabilities and impairments in my early years.
I hope this helps build a bigger picture of my work experience and clinical knowledge.
